Community Thrift donation project
My Sister's House has partnered with the local Community Thrift Store for a textile fundraising initiative!
HOW DOES IT WORK?
You donate your used textiles in one of our drop box locations and we get paid directly!
The Community Thrift Store purchases used textiles from Charities, Civic Organizations, Schools, & Municipalities. The sale of these items helps generate funds that can be used directly for our programs.
GREEN & FINANCIAL BENEFITS
Textiles and used clothing make up 5% of all landfill waste. In 2009, over 4.5 million tons of material was diverted by the actions of Community Thrift Stores and instead recycled for the benefit of the Lowcountry Community.
My Sister's House benefits financially from the weight of the items put into our bins and this money goes directly to running our shelter, maintaining our programs, and assisting our clients. In 2018, MSH gave 82 cents of every dollar donated back to our clients.
Community Thrift is one of the largest recyclers in Charleston, Dorchester, & Berkely counties. By recycling these items they keep them out of landfills and provide a service to all members of the Community by offering them at a fraction of their original cost.
