Areas of Interest

All volunteers attend a 30-minute information session and then a 3-hour orientation class before beginning volunteer work at My Sister’s House. Information sessions and orientations are held monthly. Additional training is provided as needed for the specific volunteer activity you choose. Please check all activities you are interested in.

Telephone Counselor. Answer crisis line, provide referrals, interview potential clients. (Additional training required: 12 hours of supervised experience)

Children’s Program Aide. Plan and implement recreational and educational activities for children and teens in shelter.
Note: children’s activities are primarily after school and on weekday evenings. (Additional training required: 2-hour classroom training, 12 hours of supervised experience)

Court Advocate. Accompany clients to court hearings, assist with legal paperwork. Note: court activity occurs on weekday mornings. (Additional training required: 2-hour classroom training, 6 hours of supervised experience)

Shelter Aide. Assist with sorting donations, taking inventory, organizing shelter materials.

In-Service Speaker. Share your skills with clients in shelter by presenting training on topics in your field.

Speaker’s Bureau. Represent our agency at local functions and educate public about domestic violence. (Additional training required: Combination of classroom traiing, observation, and supervised experience.)
